The School Funding Pledge is
a program that works to raise the awareness of Oregon's school funding
crisis and to work to push Legislators to come up with a solution that
provides long-term, stable and adequate funding to Oregon's K-12 system.
Legislative
Pledge
I hereby
recognize
that Oregon's current system of funding public education is
inadequate, unsustainable and threatens to undermine Oregon's
future and our economy. Nothing shall deter me from
achieving long-term stable and adequate funding for public
education in the next regular legislative session -- not even
the projected budget shortfall of nearly $1.4 billion.
I hereby
commit to solving
the lack of long-term, sustainable funding for public schools in
an open and inclusive manner that solicits participation from
all sides in the 2003 Regular Legislative Session. I will
steadfastly vote in opposition to adjournment (sine die) until
we have solved this crucial issue.
I hereby
pledge to
solve the lack of long-term, sustainable funding for Oregon's
public schools in the 2003 Regular Legislative Session. |

"I wish we had the courage
to talk about long-term funding for schools...the silence is
deafening."
-Senator Lenn Hannon (R-Ashland);
3rd Special Session, June 2002
"Right now, school
boards in Oregon need a Ouiji Board and some tea leaves to predict the
level of state funding for next year. The Uncertainty of our
budgets will create staffing and scheduling nightmares for many
schools."
-Beth Gerot, Eugene School Board Member; From bend.com news sources, June 27, 2002
"Oregonians have
heard nothing but empty promises for years about finding a workable,
permanent solution to the lack of adequate and sustainable funding for
education. The Pledge represents an opportunity for Oregonians to
say 'enough is enough' and hold Legislators accountable. The
Pledge offers Legislators and legislative candidates an opportunity to
show voters just how serious they are about solving Oregon's long-term
school funding crisis. OSEA is proud to lead the effort to finally
do something about it."

Director; Oregon School Employees Association |
